In a significant stride towards improving victim protection support, the Action Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Project (funded by the European Union and implemented by FIIAPP) has completed the upgrading and refurbishment of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) shelter in Katsina. This aims to elevate the quality of services provided to rescued victims through the provision of comprehensive and need-based equipment and services. The hand-over ceremony which was put together by the Technical Advisor on Protection, Mrs. Nurat Lawal held on 7th November, 2023
During the handover ceremony, Mr. Federico Millan, A-TIPSOM Team leader, through the Institutional Coordinator, Mr. Jose Nsang Andeme congratulated NAPTIP and highlighted that the Katsina shelter marks the 18th out of 19 shelters supported by the project. In addition to refurbishment, various items were donated to ensure effective protection services for rescued victims. These include a range of equipment and furnishings such as a cutlery set, dinner plate set, refrigerator, set of pots, sofa set, metal filing cabinets, standing fans, chairs, working tables, mattress covers, bedsheets, blankets, mattresses, and mosquito nets, Bore Hole and Solar Panels.
Mr. Federico emphasized the importance of maintaining these facilities and urged the operators to approach the task with utmost seriousness and commitment. The Director’s representative expressed gratitude for FIIAPP’s generosity.
The donated items and upgraded facilities, coupled with the extensive training provided to service providers, as well as the development and updating of policy and operational documents for service delivery, are expected to significantly improve assistance to rescued victims.
